Self care
The moment I walked into my house after my last exam the exhaustion hit me. Finals, moving out, and saying goodbye to everyone takes a toll on you. But I was determined to start my summer off feeling fabulous, re-energized and ready to enjoy every second of it.
After trial and error, I believe I have perfected the ideal self care routine to revive you and cure that finals hangover. Here is everything you need to do when you get home from college to start your summer off right.
First things first. Sleep.
Sleep for 12 hours, no alarm. Sleep for 3 days straight if necessary. I am a big believer that sleep is the best medicine for college students.
Then, once you are feeling somewhat well rested, you need to unpack. I know this might sound like the last thing in the world that you want to do, but trust me, it will be weighing you down until you do. Give yourself time to just put everything back where it belongs (and shove the rest in the basement). Clear space, clear mind.
Now that that is out of the way here comes the fun stuff. If you're anything like me, pampering yourself is the best treat. Go do your nails, lather on a wildly colored face mask that claims it will brighten, plump, hydrate, (15 more adjectives), take an everything shower, and come out be your cleanest self. All shiny and new, wash away the dorm life (and truly appreciate not wearing shower shoes).
Finally after you are feeling like a new person, it's time to complete the final step: wholesome activities.
I know I find it difficult to fully disconnect from school, I still get phantom anxiety about assignments I think I forgot or an email I didn’t respond to. So, in order to complete the self care routine and give yourself peace of mind and that summer attitude, go on a walk with your family, start reading a new book (beach reads recommended), or take up that old hobby you abandoned during your turbulent semester at college.
Now, you are officially ready to start your summer on the right foot, refreshed, bright eyed and relaxed.
Enjoy!
